Presented in six parts in which diverse meanings are explored,\u00a0Body as Psychoanalytic Object\u00a0<\/em>focuses on the clinical psychoanalytic encounter and the body as object of psychoanalytic inquiry, spanning from the prenatal experience to death. Winters, contributors explore key themes including mind\u2013body relations in Winnicott, Bion and beyond; the oneiric body; the nascent body in early object relations; body and psychosensory experience; body in breakdown; and body in virtual space. With clinical vignettes throughout, each chapter provides unique insight into how different analysts theoretically conceive and clinically work with bodily phenomena.<\/p>\n

Building on the thinking of Winnicott and Bion as well as contributions from French psychoanalysis,\u00a0Body as Psychoanalytic Object<\/em>\u00a0offers a way forward in a body-based understanding of object relations theory.<\/p>\n

Caron Harrang, LICSW, FIPA, BCPsa\u00a0<\/strong>is a board-certified, IPA training and supervising psychoanalyst on faculty at Northwestern Psychoanalytic Society and Institute who maintains a full-time private practice in Seattle. Drew Tillotson, PsyD, FIPA, BCPsa\u00a0<\/strong>is a\u00a0board-certified psychoanalyst in private practice in San Francisco. He is a graduate and Past President of the Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California (PINC),\u00a0Past Vice-President of the North American Psychoanalytic Confederation (NAPsaC)\u00a0and teaches widely in the Bay Area. He has published on aging and intercultural phenomena and contributed book reviews for\u00a0Fort Da<\/em>\u00a0and the\u00a0International Journal of Psychoanalysis<\/em>. He is also a chapter author for Routledge\u2019s forthcoming Braving the Erotic Field in the Treatment of Adolescents and Children,<\/em>\u00a0edited by Mary T. Brady, PhD.<\/p>\n

Nancy C. Winters, MD, FIPA, ABPsa<\/strong> is an adult and child psychiatrist and training\/supervising psychoanalyst at the Oregon Psychoanalytic Institute, Portland and the Northwest Psychoanalytic Society and Institute, Seattle. She maintains a full-time psychoanalytic practice in Portland. She is a clinical professor at the Oregon Health & Science University where she was previously full professor and residency director of child and adolescent psychiatry. Publications include Child and Adolescent Systems of Care\u00a0<\/em>(Eds. Pumariega and Winters), numerous articles on adolescent depression, early childhood eating issues and child assessment, and \u201cAutoimmunity as a Response to Analytic Change\u201d in this volume.<\/p>\n
