Report from IARPP-UK<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Following their panel presentation at the Toronto conference last year, Kate Brown, Andrea Oskis, and Fiona Starr are in the process of relaunching the UK chapter of IARPP. Having been inspired by the IARPP network of chapters around the world, they are keen to revitalize their local chapter. Fiona, Kate, and Andrea recently met with Aaron Balick (UK), the previous chair of IARPP-UK and current chair of The Relational School (TRS). With Aaron\u2019s mentoring they are examining the IARPP-UK constitution and planning a relaunch event open to both IARPP members and non-members, with the goal of generating new interest for the UK chapter of our organization.<\/p>\n

Fiona and Andrea are both academics at Middlesex University in North London in addition to working in independent practice. Andrea has just completed her Bowlby Centre psychotherapy training, while Fiona is a clinical psychologist and family therapist. Kate is currently undertaking a PhD at Middlesex University, works in the National Health Service, and\u00a0is part of the Bowlby Centre teaching team. She is also on the editorial board of the journal Attachment<\/em>: New Directions in Psychotherapy and Relational Psychoanalysis<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Report from IARPP-Australia<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Greetings from Australia! The Australian chapter of IARPP has been busy preparing and running our 2016 seminar program, and has also been working closely with the 2017 IARPP Sydney Conference Committee. It\u2019s an exciting time to be a part of IARPP in Australia, as our community is growing rapidly. We continue to attract people from all over Australia and New Zealand to our seminars, with online streaming making relational thinking available to even those who live on the other side of our vast continent. I think we are helping people connect with relational ideas in a very live way, establishing our organization as a vibrant community with its own unique perspectives. IARPP-Australia has become an established presence in the psychoanalytic scene here, alongside other, longer established organizations and institutes.<\/p>\n

Our year began with a visit by Joyce Slochower, who presented her ideas on holding and sexual boundary violations. The post-paper discussion among the audience was moving and powerful, offering a rare opportunity to talk about violations in our own community in a very vulnerable and open way. I would like to thank Joyce for opening up this kind of conversation, which I hope will continue in our own study groups and within our institutes. One issue that emerged from this discussion was the complexity of distinguishing enactments from more egregious boundary violations, particularly for regulatory bodies who don\u2019t always have the necessary level of psychoanalytic expertise in which to discern the difference.<\/p>\n

We are now well into our 2016 videoconferenced seminar series. Everybody is still talking about Margaret Crastnopol\u2019s seminar on micro-trauma a few weeks go. Next we will have Howard Bacal, then Mark Blechner, followed by Bill Coburn, Virginia Goldner, and Avgi Saketopoulou. A visit to Australia by Phil Ringstrom is also looking like a real possibility. We are very much looking forward to experiencing more of his current thinking, having had a taste of it during his incredibly successful Sydney seminar on couples treatment in 2014.<\/p>\n

We are also working tirelessly to plan an amazing conference for IARPP members worldwide in 2017. If the enthusiasm of our chapter and conference committees is anything to go by, I am sure the conference will be a huge success. I encourage all of you to think about making Australia your 2017 holiday destination. Remember, May 25 through 28 are the dates for the IARPP Conference in Sydney. No matter whether you have always wanted to visit the outback and our beaches, or whether you want to experience the gourmet and cultural offerings of our capital cities, Sydney is at the center of it all and a great place to start or finish your journey.<\/p>\n
