<\/a>News from the International Chapters Committee<\/strong><\/h2>\n

We are pleased to have heard from a number of our chapters and their reports follow.\u00a0 As always, we are impressed by the number of IARPP activities and events going on around the world.\u00a0 And we are excited to announce that, since we\u2019ve last been in touch, IARPP Greece-Thessaloniki will be joining us as our newest chapter.\u00a0 This marks the first time that we have two chapters from the same country: IARPP Greece-Athens and now IARPP Greece-Thessaloniki.\u00a0 We look forward to hearing from our newest chapter in the next issue of eNews, and offer them our congratulations and warm welcome.<\/p>\n

This letter is my (Steven Kuchuck) last one to you as co-chair of the International Chapters Committee (ICC). \u00a0As of January 1, 2018, I will begin my tenure as IARPP President.\u00a0 It has been my pleasure to serve as co-chair of the ICC. Marianne Kennedy and I inherited this role from founding ICC (formerly known as the Local Chapters Committee\u2014LCC) co-chairs Chana Ullman (Israel) and Neil Altman (USA), who built a strong and important committee.\u00a0 Like Chana and Neil and the rest of the IARPP Board of Directors, I recognize that our international members and chapters are a large part of what makes IARPP strong, forming much of the heart and soul of our organization.<\/p>\n

It has been a pleasure for me to work with our ongoing chapters and their members, help start several new chapters, and consult with a number of other members who are in the midst of forming new chapters to be announced soon. It has been an especially gratifying experience to co-lead this committee with Marianne, who, as most of you know, is a tireless advocate for this committee and quite dedicated to the ongoing success and growth of our international chapters.\u00a0 I am very happy to let you know that she will continue as co-chair of the committee. And I plan to stay as involved with the committee as I possibly can, and hope to meet with the chapter members in New York City during the ICC meeting this June.<\/p>\n

And I (Marianne) want to say how much I have enjoyed working with Steve in our shared role and thank him on behalf of all of us for his warm support of the international community and his encouragement and engagement in its development and growth over the last couple of years. I look forward to his continued involvement with the chapters in his new role as President of IARPP.<\/p>\n

In closing, we want to welcome Juan Francisco Jordan (Chile) as the new co-chair of this committee.\u00a0 Juan Francisco brings with him experience from his roles as a former President of IARPP-Chile and a current member of the IARPP Board of Directors, and through his related work on behalf of the International Psychoanalytical Association.\u00a0 We very much look forward to his leadership and to welcoming him to our next in-person ICC committee meeting at the IARPP Conference in New York City June 14-17, 2018.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Report from IARPP-Portugal<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Dear\u00a0IARPP\u00a0members,<\/p>\n

2017 was a year of elections at IARPP-Portugal. The board is now composed of Miguel Moita (President), Helena Dulce (Vice-President), Ana Guedes (Secretary), Marta Godinho (Treasurer),\u00a0and Bernardo Couto (Board Member).<\/p>\n

This board is committed to implementing an open membership policy in which all registered psychotherapists who show an interest in the relational school are welcome regardless of their affiliation to other local institutions. We aim to break the traditional divisions into small groups\u00a0that has characterized the Portuguese psychoanalytic arena for the last decade. We are open to establishing links with all organizations that work within, or are interested in becoming involved with, the relational approach to psychotherapy.<\/p>\n

We now have three associated centers, Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Portuguesa de Psicoterapia Psicanal\u00edtica (APPSI), which has supported IARPP-Portugal since the beginning, and\u00a0two new centers, The Portuguese Association for Pedagogy and Mental Health and the Alameda Center for Psychology. We are in the process of contacting other\u00a0organizations and hope to have new associated centers in the following months.<\/p>\n

In 2018, we will feature our Clinical Dialogues series, a monthly\u00a0clinical presentation and discussion. We are opening in March a new study group on relational psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. This group will run a weekly seminar that will be open to all psychotherapists and psychologists.\u00a0 Starting in January, we will also have a reading group in which we will discuss articles selected from the latest issues of Psychoanalytic Dialogues.<\/em><\/p>\n

We are available to support the associated centers\u2019\u00a0scientific activities. With APPSI we will support the new study group on Psychoanalytic Education and Supervision and with The Association for Pedagogy and Mental Health we will support\u00a0a study group on Pedagogy and Relational Thinking.<\/p>\n

A partir de Janeiro teremos um grupo de leitura que ir\u00e1 discutir textos selecionados\u00a0 dos \u00faltimos n\u00fameros da revista Psychoanalytic\u00a0Dialogues<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Em Mar\u00e7o iremos dar inicio a um novo grupo de estudos sobre Psicoterapia e Psican\u00e1lise Relacional que ir\u00e1 dinamizar um semin\u00e1rio semanal com inscri\u00e7\u00f5es abertas para todos os psicoterapeutas e psic\u00f3logos.<\/p>\n

Estamos dedicados a dar apoio cientifico \u00e0s actividades dos centros associados. Dear IARPP Members,<\/p>\n

We would like to thank the IARPP Board and membership for allowing us to be part of the extended community of this international association. It feels so good to have the opportunity to interact and dialogue with relational psychoanalysts and psychotherapists worldwide. \u00a0We feel a sense of global community and \u201chome\u201d when thinking and working in a relational psychoanalytic way.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re very delighted, enthusiastic, and focused on planning and organizing events and activities for next year.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, we began a study group last November in which we are discussing \u00a0Stephen Mitchell\u2019s book Influence and Autonomy in Psychoanalysis<\/em> (1997), which was translated into Spanish a few years ago.\u00a0 Our group involves the participation of very interested graduate psychologists and senior clinicians. \u00a0Discussion of both theoretical and clinical concepts takes place in these engaging encounters.<\/p>\n

<\/a>IARPP-Mexico Chapter Report<\/strong><\/h2>\n

We are pleased to report on the recent activities of the Mexican chapter of IARPP.<\/p>\n

As all of you already know, certain states in Mexico were struck by an earthquake on September the 19th<\/sup>, exactly the same day another big one struck in 1985. Both left devastating consequences for Mexico\u2019s population, including many losses of loved ones and of their houses, cars, and so many other things.<\/p>\n

The members of the Mexican chapter of IARPP fortunately are all fine, and thank you all very much for your concern. As did a very great number of Mexicans during the first 24 hours after the earthquake, we also fled to the streets to help in many different ways, from carrying rubble, food, and water, to psychologically helping people onsite who had just lost a family member, friend, or acquaintance. Days later when people and the government started organizing the help, we participated at hostels attending to people in crisis who were experiencing anxiety and post-traumatic stress. Since that day we have attended to\u2014and keep attending to\u2014patients in our practice via telephone or Skype, since Mexico City is one of the largest cities in the world and many people do not have the time or the money to pay for public transport.<\/p>\n

It has been a very moving and sad experience for all of us and there are so many things still to be done in helping many people. We know it will take some time to go back to \u201cnormal\u201d but we are sure that even during natural disasters we can always learn many things, especially if solidarity and empathy are present.<\/p>\n

Tenemos el gusto de reportar lo siguiente:<\/p>\n

Como es por todos sabido el 19 de septiembre tuvimos en M\u00e9xico un terremoto muy fuerte, justo el mismo d\u00eda de otro terrible que tuvimos en 1985 de consecuencias tambi\u00e9n devastadoras para todos los mexicanos, dejando enormes p\u00e9rdidas en todos sentidos.<\/p>\n

Afortunadamente todos los miembros del Cap\u00edtulo Mexicano aunque consternados nos encontramos bien y agradecemos a todos el inter\u00e9s y preocupaci\u00f3n que tuvieron por todos nosotros. Durante las 24 primeras horas posteriores al terremoto, como la mayor\u00eda de los mexicanos todos nos volcamos a las calles a ayudar desde cargando graba de edificios derrumbados, comida, agua hasta ayudar a las personas en el lugar en el que recientemente hab\u00edan perdido alg\u00fan familiar, amigo o conocido.<\/p>\n

En los d\u00edas subsiguientes en los que ya el gobierno y la ciudadan\u00eda se organizaron para brindar la ayuda, apoyamos dando atenci\u00f3n psicol\u00f3gica en albergues a personas con crisis de angustia y estres post traum\u00e1tico, depresi\u00f3n. A partir de entonces hemos seguido dando apoyo psicol\u00f3gico en nuestros consultorios ya sea v\u00eda presencial, telef\u00f3nica o por Skype debido a que la Ciudad de M\u00e9xico es una de las ciudades m\u00e1s grandes del mundo y muchas personas no pueden trasladarse f\u00e1cilmente de un lado a otro o no cuentan con los recursos econ\u00f3micos suficientes para hacerlo.<\/p>\n

Ha sido una experiencia muy dura para todos nosotros, en la que hemos aprendido muchas cosas y hay mucho a\u00fan por hacer a todos niveles, pero sentimos que con la solidaridad y empat\u00eda de todos lo vamos logrando.<\/p>\n

IARPP Spain will be co-organizing together with IPR (the Institute of Relational Psychotherapy, Madrid) the 5th Relational Psychoanalytic Meeting<\/strong> entitled \u201cThe Couple and the Community:\u00a0 Transforming our Everyday Relationships,\u201d with Andrew Samuels (UK) and Phil Ringstrom (USA) as the invited speakers. The conference will take place in La Granja de San Ildefonso (Segovia), Spain, on February 23 and 24, 2018.<\/p>\n

The next IARPP-Spain meeting<\/strong> will take place in Seville in October of 2019. We are currently working on choosing the main theme and deciding on the invited speakers and we will keep you informed in the upcoming issues of the eNews.<\/p>\n

A new issue of the journal,\u00a0Revista Cl\u00ednica e Investigaci\u00f3n Relacional<\/em>, created by \u00c1gora Relacional and co-sponsored by IARPP-Spain and\u00a0IPR, has been launched.<\/p>\n

Here at IARPP Greece Athens chapter our study and peer supervision group is continuing to grow steadily. Our group combines presentations of interesting adult and child clinical cases with readings of relevant papers from the relational literature. Dear IARPP community,<\/p>\n

We want to share with you our final activities of this year.<\/p>\n

In October we had our last clinical meeting entitled, \u201cOn Psychoanalysis and Inmigration.\u201d \u00a0Consistent with the IARPP perspective of including and making sense of the contexts in which our clinical practices take place, and given not only the magnitude of the inmigration processes in our country, but also of the eruption of ideas on difference-inclusion, political assylum, cultural diversity, and interculturality, we decided to bring in and share reflections from different ponts of views. The idea was to try to look at the inmigration processes at a global level, thinking about interculturality in our clinical practice, and trying to think critically about how to move into these new horizons.<\/p>\n

Francesca Colzani <\/strong>presented her paper, \u201cA Choral Response to the Documentary film Chasing Asylum,<\/em>\u201d\u00a0presented at the IARPP International Conference in Sydney. Margarita Becerra <\/strong>presented \u201cAnd the Place of Culture in Psyhotherapy? The Construction of Otherness and Processes of Change in Clinical Work with Different Others.\u201d And\u00a0 Germ\u00e1n Morales\u2019 <\/strong>presentation was entitled, \u201cThe Stranger that Knocks at your Door: \u00a0Relational Psychotherapy and Interculturality.\u201d\u00a0 [Did I translate these correctly?]<\/strong><\/p>\n

In October we also held our Annual General Meeting where our annual budget was approved.\u00a0 During that meeting we informed our members about the activities of our different committees, giving special attention to our Editorial Committee, which is currently working on the first relational psychoanalytic dictionary.\u00a0 We also welcomed the 22 new members who have joined our chapter, and discussed the re-launching of our web page, which you can visit here: www.iarppchile.cl<\/a>.<\/p>\n

We then gave space to think together about the difficulty acomplishing our goal of having more active participation from the members of our organization.\u00a0 In addition to attending our clinical meetings and international conferences, we need our members to get involved with our committees and work groups. \u00a0Some suggestions were made to gain more involvement and in this context we arrived at the idea of offering some funding for seminars, supervisions, and workshops taught to our members by our members.<\/p>\n

In November we sponsored an international conference organized by CESCH (The Chilean Sexuality Center) called \u201cRelational Concepts, Attachment Theory, and the Neuroscience of Sexuality,\u201d <\/strong>where the international guest was Dr. Mario Marrone and the local presenters included Nicole Baumgartner, Andr\u00e9 Sassenfeld, and Dr. Christian Thomas.<\/p>\n

Currently we are planning our end of the year party to be held in January of 2018.<\/p>\n

Estimada comunidad IARPP,<\/p>\n

Queremos compartir con ustedes lo que fueron nuestras \u00faltimas actividades de este a\u00f1o:<\/p>\n

En Octubre realizamos nuestra \u00faltima jornada cl\u00ednica 2017, sobre \u00a0“Psicoan\u00e1lisis e Inmigraci\u00f3n”.<\/strong> Siguiendo la perspectiva de la IARPP Chile de incorporar y hacer sentidos a los contextos en que se desenvuelve nuestra pr\u00e1ctica cl\u00ednica, dada no s\u00f3lo la magnitud\u00a0 de los procesos de migraci\u00f3n en nuestro pa\u00eds, sino la irrupci\u00f3n de las nociones de diferencia-inclusi\u00f3n, refugio pol\u00edtico, diversidad cultural e\u00a0 interculturalidad es que hemos decidido interpelar y compartir reflexiones desde diversas aristas. La idea fue intentar mirar los procesos de migraci\u00f3n a nivel mundial, pensar en el lugar que la cl\u00ednica relacional ocupa la interculturalidad, y analizar cr\u00edticamente c\u00f3mo nos movemos en estos nuevos horizontes.<\/p>\n

Francesca Colzani <\/strong>\u00a0present\u00f3 su trabajo \u201cRespuesta Coral al Documental \u2018Persiguiendo Asilo\u2019\u201d\u00a0 presentado en la Conferencia Internacional de la IARPP en Sydney, como parte del Panel Invitado \u201cDe la Necesidad de Pronunciarse Ante la Injusticia\u201d.\u00a0Margarita Becerra present\u00f3\u00a0 su trabajo titulado <\/strong>\u00bfY el lugar de la cultura en psicoterapia?\u00a0Construcci\u00f3n de alteridad y procesos de alterizaci\u00f3n en la cl\u00ednica con quienes aparecen como tan distintos.\u201d\u00a0 Y Germ\u00e1n Morales <\/strong>“Un des-conocido que sufre llama a tu puerta”: Psicoterapia relacional e interculturalidad.<\/p>\n

Tambien tuvimos en octubre nuestra Asamblea General Ordinaria<\/strong> donde fue aprobada nuestra cuanta anual, correspondiente a nuestro primer a\u00f1o como directiva. Resumimos las actividades realizadas durante el a\u00f1o de los diversos grupos de trabajo, destacando el del comit\u00e9 editorial en la elabotraci\u00f3n en curso del primer diccionario de psicoanalisis relacional. Ingresaron 22 nuevos miembros. Creamos y lanzamos nuestra nueva p\u00e1gina web que est\u00e1n invitados a conocer en www.iarppchile.cl<\/a><\/p>\n

Durante la reuni\u00f3n luego se\u00a0 reflexion\u00f3 en conjunto acerca de la dificultad de lograr una participaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s activa de los miembros, que si bien asisten con entusiasmo a las diversas actividades, se involucran\/comprometen poco con la organizaci\u00f3n, pese a los llamados a integrarse a diversos comit\u00e9s (esta discusi\u00f3n surge desde lo dif\u00edcil que result\u00f3 lograr el qu\u00f3rum para la asamblea general pese a que en su mayor\u00eda fueron poderes enviados por mail). Se habla de la identidad y pertenencia a IARPP Chile, la cual alberga a grupos diversos y heterog\u00e9neos, muchos de ellos con su propia identidad e historia previa; la falta de tiempo y el hecho de que esto es com\u00fan a otras instituciones. Se sugieren distintas posibilidades para generar mayor participaci\u00f3n. En este contexto, surge la idea de ofrecer instancias de formaci\u00f3n, como supervisiones, talleres, seminarios dictados por miembros u otras instancias que pudieran contar con financiamiento de IARPP Chile, dirigidas a otros miembros. Se pens\u00f3 en la alternativa de generar un sistema de fondos concursables y as\u00ed motivar a hacer actividades a los miembros.<\/p>\n

En Noviembre se auspici\u00f3 la realizai\u00f3n de una\u00a0 Jornada Internacionas del CESCH \u201cDe Conceptos Relacionales, Teor\u00eda del Apego y Neurociencias\u00a0 en sexualidad\u201d<\/strong> donde el invitado in ternacionesl fue el Dr. Mario Marrone y expusieron tambien Nicole Baumgartner, Andr\u00e9 Sassenfeld, y el Dr. Christian Thomas.<\/p>\n

Actualmente estamos abocados a la planificaci\u00f3n de nuestra fiesta de fin de a\u00f1o que se realizar\u00e1 en Enero.<\/p>\n

Desde Chile les deseamos unas muy felices fiestas y un aun mejor 2018!!<\/p>\n
