Dear IARPP Colleagues,<\/p>\n

It\u2019s my pleasure to serve as new editor of the IARPP newsletter, in which role I\u2019ll continue the tradition of bringing you updates from around the relational world and from our many active leadership committees as well as continuing to draw attention to new publications and presentations from our international membership.<\/p>\n

This IARPP Bookshelf issue highlights the emerging realm of embodied psychoanalytic work. Silvia B. Birklein announces her book chapter exploring physical movement\u2019s capacities to enhance vitality and integration, and\u00a0Ravit Raufman\u00a0has released a book on the affinity between idiomatic expressions and somatic behaviors and symptoms.<\/p>\n

A theme of gender exploration threads through as well. Petra Beuskens interrogates the contradiction between western women\u2019s autonomous and maternal selves, suggesting that while women are increasingly granted freedom as individuals, they continue to be constrained as mothers. Steven Seidman has co-authored a book limning today\u2019s rapidly changing gender landscape in terms of its impacts on the lives of men; he challenges narrow stereotyped views, arguing that men\u2019s subjectivities are as complex and layered as women\u2019s.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll also encounter such absorbing topics as: sex & drugs; politics & psychopathy; racial and ethnic perspectives & the ameliorative power of apology; the poetics of place & the identification of geographical narcissism in our field \u2013 a topic definitely worth a close look by those of us who practice in urban centers (guilty).<\/p>\n

A personal note: Having attended my first IARPP conference and followed the online colloquia while still in training, I\u2019ve come of analytic age with this organization. I\u2019m delighted now to have this opportunity to further its mission of connecting and enhancing relational voices from around the globe. I look forward to collaborating with you all on this endeavor. I also wish to recognize the excellent work of my immediate predecessors in this undertaking, Christina Emanuel (whom I thank for showing me the ropes over the past few months with equal parts precision and good humor) and Maria Tammone.<\/p>\n
