It has just been announced that next year\u2019s Annual Conference will take place in Los Angeles, California, on June 18-21, 2020.<\/p>\n

The conference is entitled \u201cExpanding Our Clinical Experiences: The Spoken, Unspoken and Unspeakable in Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy.\u201d It is being chaired by Philip Ringstrom, PhD, PsyD, (USA), Hazel Ipp, PhD (Canada) and Ilene Philipson, PhD, PhD, PsyD (USA).<\/p>\n

Here is an overview of the conference\u2019s aim:<\/p>\n

As our relational theories move us beyond the “talking cure” toward the unspoken and the implicit, the clinical encounter can seem both infinite in possibility and, simultaneously, unmoored. It challenges us to wonder how we navigate the verbal and nonverbal, the perceptual and experiential and what is permissible and impermissible in our clinical work.<\/p>\n

Drawing on more established as well as emerging insights from the multiple analytic perspectives within our comparative \u201cbig tent,\u201d we will gather at the Luskin Conference Center on the UCLA campus in Los Angeles to promote a clinically grounded, multi-generational conversation. Listening closely together to both the drama of specific clinical moments and the stories of patients and therapists deeply entwined in the ongoing therapeutic relationship, we hope to challenge and enlarge our vision of relational psychoanalysis today and for the future.<\/p>\n

Please note that all IARPP members are invited to submit proposals for individual papers and\/or panels pertaining broadly to the conference theme. The deadline for receipt of proposal submissions is Monday, September 30, 2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
