Led by Margaret Black Mitchell (USA), the Candidates Committee consists of candidates from all over the world who come together to create a community in which the focus is specifically on and for candidates and early-career psychoanalysts.
The Candidates Committee recently hosted its annual online webinar which ran from January 16 to February 5, 2017. Led by Sandra Buechler (USA) and moderated by John Skrovan (USA), the group actively discussed several chapters of her book Making a Difference in Patients’ Lives. Over 70 candidates representing 15 different countries participated.
Our next event will be during the upcoming IARPP International Conference in Sydney, Australia. On Thursday, May 25, at 7:30 pm, our group will host the Candidates Reception. This has become a welcoming tradition during our international conferences, and it is a great opportunity to get to know each other, meet senior members, or reconnect with friends and colleagues. If you are a candidate or early-career analyst, please stop by and say hello – we would love to see you!
Each year at the conference our committee sponsors the Candidates Panel. In response to our call for submissions this year, we received many excellent paper proposals from candidates around the world, from which we had the very difficult task of choosing four. Those papers selected represent Australia, Canada, Israel, and Italy. In keeping with the international makeup of our panelists, we look forward to a lively discussion around the theme “Navigating Complexity: Considering the Relationship between Theory and Practice,” with Joyce Slochower (USA) as the respondent. Please join us in Sydney on Saturday, May 27, at 8:30 am, for our Candidates Panel.
