Death of a Parent: Openings at an Ending
As the new co-chairs of the IARPP Colloquium Committee, we’re pleased to announce the forthcoming colloquium.
We will be discussing Mary Joan Gerson’s 2018 paper from Psychoanalytic Perspectives, “Death of a Parent: Openings at an Ending”. This beautiful article explores the way that a parent’s death can create unexpected opportunities for intrapsychic and intersubjective growth and repair, and underscores the impact of developmental events across the life span. The paper offers rich opportunities for discussion from multiple perspectives.
The paper will be available online closer to the time. And we’re pleased to include also translations into Spanish, Greek and Russian.
The colloquium will run from 13-24 November, and will include a wonderful line-up of panelists:
Manuel Aburto (Spain)
Tamar Barnea (Israel)
Cynthia Chalker (USA)
Jody Davies (USA)
Carla Fischer (Chile)
Jen Fox (Australia)
Shifa Haq (India)
Gary Rodin (Canada)
Peter Shabad (USA)
We look forward to joining with you all in what promises to be an exciting and informative event – so please: Save the Date!
Best wishes to all
Cathy Hicks PhD (Australia) and Amy Cooney PhD (USA)
Paper will be made available to all members
