Dear IARPP members,
We are honored to present you the Fall 2012 issue of the IARPP eNews. We hope, as time goes on,
you find that the newsletter is becoming more international and inclusive of the concerns and interests of our global professional community. We are delighted that Portugal has joined our IARPP family!
In many ways this issue of the eNEWS deals with the ongoing themes that have been illuminated in many of our shared dialogues, that is: the witnessing, sharing and co-processing of human trauma and suffering. We see these themes in Donna Orange’s workshop in Chile that explored “on being with the pain of the stranger,” in Nitza Yarom’s reflection on the problematic use of metaphor in understanding another’s suffering; and in Galit-Atlas Koch and Steve Kuchuck’s summary of the recent online colloquium exchanges on race, gender, and power that arose from a discussion of Dianne Elise’s paper.
You will also find in this issue:
We witnessed with gratitude the support and concern that the international IARPP community expressed to our members on the east coast of the United States who lived through and are still coping with the damage and trauma caused by Hurricane Sandy. We wish all who were affected a rapid return to “normal.”
We look forward to the continued development of the international dialogue that takes place in all IARPP activities. And, as always, we invite you to send us news of and reflections on your professional activities.
Wishing you all peace and joy,
Sally and Sharon
