As many of you know, each year the Candidates Committee sponsors a panel at the annual IARPP International Conference specifically for candidates currently in training and “new” analysts who have completed their analytic training within the last five years. This coming year’s panel is entitled, Learning from the Other: Contributions, Confusions & Challenges of Drawing from Other Disciplines for New Analysts.
Each year we endeavor to come up with a panel topic falling within the rubric of the conference-at-large while also offering specific questions, prompts and potential avenues of inquiry that we hope will inspire candidates and new analysts to present their work, perhaps for the first time. Another distinguishing feature of the Candidates Panel is that we partner each presenter with a member of the Candidates Committee who is available to mentor and offer support as the presenter’s proposal is transformed into a final presentation.
The primary goal of the Candidates Panel is to provide a supportive space for new, unique and upcoming voices to present their work and become more active members in the IARPP community. The many IARPP members who come out to support the candidates each year are an important part of this welcoming space. We are most grateful for this support, and we hope to see many of you at the panel in Valencia!
We continue to prepare for the upcoming online IARPP Candidates Webinar that will take place February 6-19, 2023, featuring discussant Tony Bass (USA). This webinar will be grounded in two concepts that are hallmarks of Tony’s contributions to psychoanalysis, which also lie at the heart of what distinguishes the mutuality of Relational psychoanalysis from other ways of listening and engaging: the dialogue of unconsciouses and the elasticity of the frame. Worldwide events in the last few years, becoming too many to mention but including war, pandemic, and widespread environmental disasters resulting from the climate crisis, continue to stress-test and provide evidence of the salience of these topics. We are excited to welcome back John Skrovan (USA) as moderator of the webinar. Please keep an eye on your inboxes in the new year for the invitation to participate in this webinar. We look forward to “seeing” many of you as we engage together with Tony Bass’ rich ideas.
Lastly, we’d like to welcome the newest member to our committee, Giuseppe Magistrale (Italy). Giuseppe is a clinical psychologist, psychotherapist, and analyst, he is a member of ISIPSé, a member of the IARPP candidate committee, and teaches psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the Italian Association of Cognitive Psychotherapy (AIPC). He currently works as a psychotherapist in Bari, Italy for the Center for Eating Disorders (Centro DCA) of which he has been a founding member.
