From the President

Dear IARPP Members,

Our second annual Colloquium has just concluded. Once again we experienced together the paradox of following so many interesting thoughts, emotions and clinical ideas and at the same time not having enough time to process everything arriving in our e-mail – like a wave of ideas and ‘people’ we learn to welcome with gratitude and lightness. The debate cannot be exhaustive, but I believe this is a valuable feature of this mode of exchange. Matt Aibel (USA), with his generous work, and the panelists were able to stimulate and keep alive the dialogue around our imperfections and failures. I would like to add that IARPP’s Italian-language webinar, which this year focused on errors in clinical work and in supervision, has also just concluded. It seems to me an indicator of our community’s maturity that we can so boldly and openly discuss when things aren’t entirely right, and the frustration and shame that follow. Sharing these aspects means working with passion and trust towards both patients and colleagues. Thank you to all those who posted or who followed attentively, even silently.

You will shortly receive the program of IARPP’s 19th Annual Conference to be held in Valencia, Spain, June 15-18, 2023. I hope that many of you will decide to participate in person in such a meaningful moment for our community.

In closing this year marked by such destabilizing and painful events, I would like to reach out to everyone with my wish for a new year full of affection, and encouragement to stubbornly continue to believe in our common humanity.

With friendship,
Susanna Federici
