The upcoming IARPP Colloquium will tackle an enlivening yet illusive process of improvisation and play in the clinical space. The discussion will focus on Phil Ringstrom's unpublished paper "Principles of Improvisation: A model of therapeutic plan in relational analysis."Ringstrom has published and presented his evolving ideas about improvisation in the clinical space for years. This paper builds on Winnicott's admonition that it is the analyst's task to teach the patient how to play by attempting to fill in the gap as to how that might occur in adult treatment. The paper will be available to read before the colloquium begins. As usual we will open the colloquium with discussion amongst an international panel of psychoanalytic scholars with a wide range of perspectives on this important subject. Then we will open it up to the entire community for continued discussion.
The International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy (IARPP) is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists.
