Dear colleagues,

A lot has happened in Romania during the last 6 months, and what has happened has affected us, in one way or another, all of us, including the IARPP Romanian Chapter. When we started making plans for after the passage of the pandemic wave, while we were thinking about removing restrictions and resuming certain activities, the war in Ukraine began. Sometimes I think it’s too close…

Many Romanians organized themselves to help those who were fleeing the plague or who were just transiting Romania on their way to other destinations. It’s impressive to see people who no longer wonder “why?, when?, how?,” but simply help their fellow men in need.

Under these circumstances, we, the psychotherapists/psychoanalysts, worked. We contained our patients’ fears, plans, anxieties day in and day out. We continued our monthly meetings, Relational Explorations. We continued to organize the Ogden seminars, as we intended. We enjoyed the monthly presence of Peggy Crastnopol (USA) among us, and we learned together. This is so good!

More recently, the Romanian chapter has become even more involved in social projects. Together with a non-profit organization, our psychotherapists (Corina Tudose and Simona Popa) designed a socio-emotional learning curricula for primary school children, with country-wide reach. This educational project has the chance to develop so that our chapter can deliver psychoeducational information and support for wider groups: students, parents and teachers.

Even if the tension of the war is quasi-present, we make plans to open up to the wider IARPP community by organizing seminars open for all, but this will take shape when the proper conditions for this will be met.

And to better convey the atmosphere from us, I will greet you as a Ukrainian neighbor greeted me the other day:

Peace and health,

Dragi colegi,

Ne-am continuat intalnirile noastre lunare – Explorarile relationale – am organizat in continuarea seminarul Ogden, asa cum ne-am propus.

Valentin Miu, presedinte
